 Introduction
Do you rent your home? If yes, have you had any problems with broken toilets, broken heat, leaking faucets, or bug infestations? What did you do? Did you ask the property manager to help? Did he or she help you? Did you have to fix the problem yourself or move?
In this WebQuest you will learn about your renter's repair rights. You will learn the steps to handle problems and you will have an opportunity to practice these steps to develop your problem solving skills.
Tasks
To complete this WebQuest, you will work with a classmate to: research renter's rights, learn about the complaint process, write letters, make phonecalls, and look for local resources. You will write and perform a skit with your partner to show what you have learned and you will provide feedback to others who have problems with their renter's rights. Let's get started! Following are the tasks you will need to complete:
- Learn the necessary vocabulary for this WebQuest.

- Research renter's rights.

- Consolidate and review your findings.

- Write two letters.

- Make a phone call (leave a voice mail message).

- Look for local resources.

- Write and perform a dialogue between a renter and a property manager.

- Provide feedback to others with repair problems.

- Complete a follow-up survey.

Process
- Class Discussion: With your teacher, your class will have a discussion about renter's rights and problems that you might have experienced in the past. Jot down at least three possible repair problems (to be used later) that renters have in their homes.
- Meet Your Partner: Your teacher will assign you a classmate to work with on this WebQuest.
- Details and Deadline: Your teacher will let you know when you will be expected to work on the WebQuest and when all tasks should be completed.
- Complete the Tasks: Complete each task in the order assigned above. Ask your teacher if you need assistance.

Conclusion
After successful completion of this WebQuest you will be ready to practice sticking-up for your renter's rights. You will know your rights, you will know the process for logging a complaint and following up on it, and you will know the local resources that can help if your problem is still not resolved. You may also want to help others in your community to know their renter's rights. You will be able to show them your resources, help them write letters, and help them make phone calls. Together you can make a difference!
